Brockville West: Tour de Lyn (24km)

Cyclists in Downtown Brockville
Trail information:

This short loop starts and ends in downtown Brockville at the parking lot on Water St. adjacent to City Hall. It’s a quick ride, and one for the family, where riders are comfortable in rural road traffic. Lyn is a quaint village, well worth exploring.

Follow Water St., left onto Perth St., right on Jessie, left on Ann, and right on Hartley St., right again on Rivers Ave. to the T-stop on King. Turn left/west onto King St./Cty. Rd. 2 and past St. Lawrence Park and then the Brockville Country Club. Turn right onto Lyn Rd./Cty. Rd. 46 and cycle past one of four adjoining cemeteries that date back to Brockville's founding times.

Follow Lyn Rd as it goes under the CN Rail Toronto-Montreal main line and under Hwy. 401, climbing up and over a granite ridge line with exposed rock cuts. At the stop sign for Cty. Rd. 27, turn left to continue on Cty. Rd. 27/46. On your right Burnbrae Farms' headquarters- the largest egg producer in Canada - and one of its processing plants.

As you enter the town of Lyn, you'll pass a school on your right and a cenotaph on your left. At the cenotaph you can look to the south into the Lyn Valley, where this route soon goes. At the main intersection in Lyn, bear left with Cty. Rd. 27. A block further along there's a general store to your right, and then the next turn, onto Lyn Valley Rd, to the left.

The Lyn Valley Rd descents quickly into the Lyn Valley, past "the pit" swimming area of the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority, then meanders beside Lyn Creek and turns into Hallecks Rd. Be careful crossing the double rail line - a busy route with high-speed trains and often one passing train ends with another coming the other way. Continue on Hallecks Rd. as it descends off the ridge line, running south to a T-stop at Cty. Rd. 2. Turn left to cruise Cty. Rd. 2 back to Brockville, passing the cemeteries, the Country Club, and St. Lawrence Park before turning right onto Rivers Ave and retracing your route to downtown.
