Canadian Foodways Since Confederation

Sarah B. Hood is a Toronto-based writer and a finalist for Canada's National Magazine Awards. A board member with the Culinary Historians of Canada, she often gives presentations about food history and volunteers as a historic cook in the 1850s-period kitchen at Montgomery’s Inn in Etobicoke. She was the recipe researcher for the series Back in Time for Dinner, broadcast on CBC Television. Her last book, We Sure Can! How Jams and Pickles are Reviving the Lure and Lore of Local Food, was shortlisted for Taste Canada—The Food Writing Awards. Her next book, Jam, Jelly and Marmalade, A Global History, will be published in Reaktion Books' Edible Series. She has a connection with the Elgin neighbourhood, because her mother grew up in Brockville and the family still owns a cottage at Charleston Lake. They all have fond memories of dining at the Elgin Pizzeria.
