Maple Syrup: Sustainable Harvesting Then and Now

The Hastings Stewardship Council presents “Maple Syrup: Sustainable Harvesting Then and Now,” the third presentation in the Winter Speaker Series 2020.

Local producer, Gareth Metcalfe, has been tapping trees and making syrup for family and friends for more years than he is willing to admit.

Maple syrup has been a sustainable springtime ritual in Quinte and Eastern Canada for centuries. Topics will include tapping equipment, sap collection and storage, boiling techniques, innovations and maple products.

Gareth Metcalfe will talk about the history of maple syrup production as well as an instructional overview of this springtime tradition. Gareth’s entertaining stories will engage everyone. The event is suitable for all ages, and kids will love learning more about this sweet, sticky subject.

An entrance fee of $5. (or a donation) will help cover costs. Children and students are free.
