Under the Influence: A short History of Brewing in Canada

Ever wonder how Canada became a nation of Beer Drinkers? Or how Labbatts and its Allies brewed this? For a long time, beer was not the drink of choice for Canadians - spirits were consumed in shocking quantities to cope with frontier life.  Matthew Bellamy, professor of History at Carleton University discusses the country’s love of lager, and the close tie between beer and Canadian identity. He is a regular contributor to Taps: The Beer Magazine. Bellamy is currently working on a book-length history of the Labatt’s brewery.
