Rideau Canal and Area Routes

A major attraction to tourists, the Rideau Canal is a designated National Historic Site of Canada and UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can traverse from Kingston to Ottawa, a distance of 202 kilometres, while stopping and exploring the surrounding beauty of places & things along the canal.

The canal was constructed in 1832, as a precaution in case of war with the United States. Today it is the oldest operating canal in North America. The canal system links the rivers and lakes between the two cities through a series of 49 locks.
