CRCA Mushrooms 101 Presentation

Local chef and forager Ruthie Cummings has become an expert on local mushrooms, including how to identify, prepare and eat them. The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority is partnering with Cummings to present a special ‘Mushrooms 101’ event, which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018 at 1 p.m.

Join Cummings in the Outdoor Centre at the Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area, where she will offer a 90-minute presentation, highlighted by an introduction to mushroom types and structures, mushroom safety a short identification walk through the property, spore printing and topped off with some mushroom pizza. She will also talk about why it is important not to forage on protected land (such as a Conservation Area) but to use them as a resource guide.

The cost is $2 per person, plus the regular gate fee. Pre-registration is required. You can sign up online at

The Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area is located on Division Street just two kilometres north of Highway 401. Entry fees are: $5.50 per person for adults and children over 12, and $3 per person for children 12 and under, to a maximum fee of $14 per car. Annual passes are available for $80 per year.
